Ryan Jordan: Possession Trance

Sat 27 May | 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Possession Trance is an immersive live performance project created by Ryan Jordan, artist and curator of the noise=noise events series. Continuously developing since 2008, the piece employs a combination of minerals, metals, electronic circuits, high-powered stroboscopic light, dense fog, high-intensity noise and ritual incense in an attempt to create powerful, hallucinatory phenomena within the performer and audience members alike. This workshop will dissect, explore and present this body of work to participants so they may learn, adapt and incorporate these concepts into their own practice.

The Possession Trance workshop is divided into three parts:

  1. Presentation
Participants will be introduced to the practice and contextual background of the project.
  2. Construction
Participants will construct their own crude, self-made solar cells from bare copper material, as well as a custom audio amplification circuit from discrete electronic components, which when combined may be used to convert stroboscopic light into audible sound.
  3. Live
Participants will be invited to collaborate and perform utilising their creations at the NNNNN x Telegrafรญa event, taking place in the evening.

The workshop is limited to 8 participants. No previous experience in electronics or music performance is required. All materials are provided and participants keep what they make.

**Please note** This workshop may not be suitable for people with photosensitive epilepsy as stroboscopic light will be used.
